Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the Romanian legislation and case law on gender reassignment from the perspective of civil law in Romania. By first highlighting the distinction between sex and gender in Romanian law, the author then discusses the international regulations on the matter in order to address the consequences and modalities of gender reassignment on Romanian civil status through a judgment rendered by the European Court of Human Rights in 2021 against Romania.
