Summary/Abstract: Through this research, the author deals with the historical, political, social, cultural and religious factors leading to the integration or, on the contrary, to the disintegration of the Balkan countries in Europe. By highlighting the internal divergences within this bloc and the interests in their integration into the European Union, as well as the foreign influences that are increasing in the area, the author highlights the predominant ambivalent feeling, which oscillates between rejection and desire for European integration.
