Only change is constant: 2020 parliamentary elections in Slovakia

Summary/Abstract: In February 2020 parliamentary elections were held for the eighth time in the history of the independent Slovakia, in which the ruling coalition led by Smer was defeated by the anti-corruption party OĽaNO. Firstly, I outline the political background of the elections. The next section is devoted to the electoral system, paying special attention to its impact on the results of the parties. The outcome of the elections is investigated in the third section. Finally, I deal with the government formation pointing out that the four-party coalition may face with severe challenges in the future.
