Summary/Abstract: My paper entitled “Martydrom in the West Syriac Liturgical Tradition” is an attempt to explore the notion of ‘Martyr and Martyrdom’ in the West Syriac (Antiochean) liturgical tradition. The paper explains the notion of martyrdom in Sacred Scripture, Syriac Orient, and West Syriac liturgy. The paper also attempts to clarify some theological themes related to martyrdom considering prayers from West Syriac ferial breviary, called Šhimo.
