Summary/Abstract: The Imre Madách Bicentennial, the playwriter of The Tragedy of Man, can give a great impetus to the research of his essential work in the sense that its poetic inventions are adequately represented in the history of reception, presenting a high-level application of their stylistic apparatus. This thesis provides an insight into the construction of the metaphorical structures of The Tragedy of Man. The repetitions and forward and backward references to certain tropes form a metaphorical net, a field of meaning, which, in addition to the biblical allusion system and the process of dramatic actions, make the direct line of thinking of the work accessible and understandable. The study mainly compares the variations of seven fundamental metaphors, among which some appear only three times, such as the lust of the beverage water or [the fire of] the bonfire, but others carry much larger and more depressing ideas, such as the sinful misery or the noble struggle and noble liquor.
