Summary/Abstract: In order to reduce pollution due to lignite combustion in thermal power plants in Romania and to comply with European standards on sulfur dioxide emission limits, flue gas desulfurization installations began to be implemented starting in 2007. Among the power plants where wet flue gas desulfurization installations were built and put into operation are the Rovinari and Craiova II power plants where Alstom desulfurization technology was applied. The article presents the design of these installations for the two power plants and the challenges faced by the project teams in their implementation.
