Summary/Abstract: Yvette Sánta, a puppeteer from Sfântu Gheorghe, studied traditional wayang kulit puppetry in Indonesia for one year beginning from August 2023, as part of the Darmasiswa Indonesian Scholarship Program. Emese Szabó asked her about her personal and professional experiences. According to her experiences, Indonesians are community- and help-oriented, however, in the field of puppetry education the local community is governed by a strong hierarchy and resistance to outsiders. Traditional puppeteers, the dalangs, are highly respected, but foreigners are not warmly received. During her stay in Indonesia, Yvette Sánta learned the basics of puppetmaking and music, and experienced the value of precision and a strong collaborative work ethic.
