Summary/Abstract: Wind musical instruments consist of two main parts - a hydrodynamic source of sound energy and a sound resonator (Fabre et al., 2012:1–25). The source generates sound energy, which is captured and amplified by resonance by the sound resonator. The resonator is generally a tube with two open ends (caval, transverse flute, Chinese flute, dizi, naya, shakuhachi, Indian flute, recorder, human vocal apparatus, etc.) or with one open and one closed end (clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bagpipe, accordion, etc.). When played, the air column in the tube vibrates at a sound frequency that depends on the effective length of the tube. Part of the mechanical energy of the vibrating air column is released outside the tube and propagates as sound. By opening and closing the holes in the tube, the effective length of the tube changes and, therefore, the frequency of the sound changes.
