Summary/Abstract: If in the past the analysis the score of the opera “Borislav” was difficult, almost impossible task due to the bad condition of the original score, today, thanks to the new version of the orchestral score and piano scores made by prof. Velislav Zaimov, we can see the compositional style of the first opera of the composer Georgi Atanasov. His technique of using leit-themes and leitmotifs was too inventive for its time, and maybe that’s why the opera remains underappreciated until now. In the opera reveals “the enviable dramaturgical mastery” of Maestro which was noticed at the time, but the opera was neglected as “too Italian”, for the time of the composers of the first generation, the time of the fight to build the Bulgarian musical style. However this does not contradict the understanding of Maestro, who is always affirm that his 131 idea was to write Bulgarian music. Bulgarian motive is used not just in one or two places in the opera “Borislav” in favor of the leitmotif technique. Leitmotif orchestral fraction builds the whole atmosphere of the historic opera.
