About the Warsaw urban dialect and the language of Przemysław Śmiech’s columns

Summary/Abstract: The article takes up the issue of the urban dialect of Warsaw, an ahistorical formation; the elements of which are used by contemporary writers. The author, making a linguistic analysis, tries to answer the question of whether the elements of the 19th century Warsaw dialect contained in Przemysław Śmiech’s writings are its continuation, or whether we are dealing with a new quality. The author concludes that the elements of the Warsaw dialect in the works of the publicist are a successful reference to the ahistorical formation; and the language used in them has the character of stylization and is only a successful literary procedure.
