Central Church Bodies Responsible for Social-philanthropic and Medical Assistance in the Romanian Orthodox Church

Summary/Abstract: In the study entitled Central church bodies responsible for social-philanthropic and medical assistance in the Romanian Orthodox Church, we aim to introduce, on the one hand, the statutory and regulatory provisions of the Romanian Orthodox Church in the social-philanthropic and medical field, and on the other hand, the central church bodies responsible for organizing social-philanthropic and medical assistance services, in particular, the Social-Philanthropic Sector within the Patriarchal Administration with two offices, the Office for Social Mission and the Office for Religious Assistance in budgetary units. We shall further look into a case study – the Philanthropy Federation, which is a non-profit organization, operating since 2007 with the blessing of the Holy Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church. Last but not least, we shall also present the social projects/programs carried out by it and the results of 2023.
