Laudatio for Petru Ilieșu

Summary/Abstract: Petru has published over twenty books of poetry, essays, and translations, directed experimental theatre, worked as a scenographer, and created digital art exhibitions—his achievements are countless. He has received numerous literary awards for poetry, translations, and lifetime achievements, as well as the National Award at the Jazz Gala. His civic and social involvement in promoting the image of Timișoara has been recognized with the Excellence Diploma from the Timișoara City Hall, the Banat Excellence Gala Award, and an Excellence Diploma in Social Urbanism. Since 2023, he has been an Honorary Citizen of Timișoara. The award from the New Human Rights Review further enriches this constellation of recognitions, honoring his exceptional contributions to the promotion of freedom and human dignity. In other words, for his love, courage, and dedication to others—and for gently reminding us that this could also be our purpose.
