Summary/Abstract: The essay examines the psychological dynamics of failed moral action through the anthropological analysis developed by ancient philosophical-theological thought. The progression in giving in to evil often appears as a surprising process even for those who do it. The ancient insistence on the importance of inner vigilance derives precisely from the awareness of the subtle inner dynamics, from which evil and violent actions are generated. The ancient theory on the genesis of evil behavior shows, by contrast, the possibility of cultivating inner resistance, which can be at the origin of restorative actions, in which the person can once again experience his own dignity and capacity for good.
