Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to analyse the literary technique Humboldt uses in his collected works „Ansichten der Natur“ which has been much influenced by the classical Greek writings. The deepest influence was the Greek geographer Strabo, whose philosophical approach is reflected in this literary writing of Humboldt. This paper is an attempt not only to highlight Humboldt’s countryside descriptions combined with the scientific descriptions, but also to analyse Humboldt’s aesthetic impressions of nature. He refers to the modes of nature. Both scientific and philosophical point of views guide Humboldt’s observation of nature. Characteristic of „Ansichten der Natur“ is primarily the connection of the scenic portrait with the morphological, genetic , empirical-analytical historians as it connects the natural physiognomy to the cultural history of man.
