Summary/Abstract: The article examines the notion of debitum coniugale (marital duty) in medieval thought, particularly in the works of Wincenty Kadłubek, one of the earliest Polish chroniclers. The study discusses how the idea of marital obligations was perceived in medieval legal, theological, and social contexts. The analysis is based on Kadłubek’s Chronica Polonorum, where issues of adultery, punishment, and marital fidelity are explored within the broader framework of medieval norms. The author considers how medieval society approached the question of conjugal rights and duties, drawing comparisons with contemporary debates in Western European thought. Special attention is given to how the violation of marital duties was penalized and how it shaped the perception of gender roles in medieval Poland.
