Summary/Abstract: The late medieval city street, including in Gdańsk, was the most important element of public space, not only serving transportation and trade but also becoming a place of public ceremonies, festivities, and at times, social turmoil. This article examines a 1452 case from Gdańsk in which a female citizen suffered an insult, leading to a legal proceeding. The study places this incident in the broader context of honor culture in medieval cities, particularly focusing on the role of women’s honor and how it was legally protected. The paper also explores the use of satirical songs and public shaming as tools of social conflict, drawing comparisons with similar occurrences in German cities.
