Summary/Abstract: This article traces the evolution of the urban landscape of Constantine’s Rock and its Medina during the period of French colonisation. It examines the transformations and restructuring of the urban fabric that occurred between 1837 and 1937. Various archival materials were collected and analysed, including written documents, maps, and photographs. This analysis allowed us to establish achronology of the urban transformation operations on the traditional fabric, and toobserve the changes in the urban landscape of Constantine’s Rock during the study period. The findings reveal the scale of demolition and restructuring operations on the existing fabric, as well as the substantial creation of new urban and architectural forms influenced by Western European norms. Ultimately, these urban transformations led to a near-total alteration of the traditional urban landscape of Constantine’s Rock, and the gradual disappearance of the millennia-old Medina.
