Summary/Abstract: When a philosopher of nature wants to model the structure and function of the universe, he makes an analogy. Some of these philosophers used the concept of a mechanism(a clock or a machine) to understand the universe, others(the pantheists) took as the substrate the buildup and function of a living organism. So, in the history of philosphy we can make a difference between the mechanical philosophy of nature and the organic philosophy of nature. Due to the infl uence of Galilei, Newton and natural science in general, the mechanical concept is more popular than the organic one. We take more seriously the concept of a mechanism. Altough, the organic concept of the universe has made a valuable effect on the history of science. To prove this, my essay presents the doctrines of Giordano Bruno, which are an important capitol in organic philosophy of nature. It examines the supposition that Bruno’s doctrines, by declaring the function of the maxim and the world psyche, were the progenitors of Newton’s concept on the formula of movement.
