Summary/Abstract: For the social and human issues and challenges raised by the current economic crisis no comprehensive theoretical solutions were forthcoming from either the pertaining academic disciplines or the fi eld of philosophy. To reach such all encompassing answers is possible only by using a suffi cient timeframe; however, these testing times still require urgent analysis, logical explanations, and tangible orientation. The cyclical nature of the economy is well-known; it has been scrutinized and described in numerous studies primarily written either by Marx or Marxist theoreticians. A number of important authors (Wallerstein, Therborn, Mészáros etc.) published works, which help us to dissect the currently ongoing economic processes. Despite this, those who draw on Marx or follow a Marxist methodology did not became meaningful actors in the discourse on the current economic crisis. Disputing the validity of Marxism is common nowadays, but its exclusion, without a meaningful debate, as a potential venue for the decipherment of contemporary social currents is a serious mistake. Modern 21st century Marxism has an important role to play in the understanding of this economic crisis; especially the future prospects facing us. Therefore, it is not only permissible, but rather necessary to re-read Marx.
