Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the study was to prove the existence of the non-memory related misinformation effect. A total of 60 participants were first shown a video depicting a crime, and next received a misleading press article describing the event in question. When filling in the test on the video, they could freely consult previously seen materials. Despite the unlimited access to the original source, the subjects gave incorrect answers based on information from the press article. This shows that the misinformation effect may also manifest itself in a non-memory task. The paper discusses some possible explanations of the causes of such phenomenon.
