Summary/Abstract: From the indigenous studies perspective, the article reflects on indigenous ways ofperceiving the world and understanding concepts of man and time handed down forcenturies from generation to generation in the Bubi orature, the indigenous peopleof Bioko Island in Equatorial Guinea. Based on an analysis of oral literature texts andanthropological studies by the Bubi, the article presents selected elements of theirindigenous knowledge system, including their vision of history and man, beliefs andphilosophy. The article reflects on the dialog between Bubi culture and other Bantucultures, as well as on the multilevel Bubi identity in the (post)postcolonial and partlypost-tribal reality of Guinea, which bears the burden of European colonialism and longstandinglocal dictatorships.
