Summary/Abstract: The article consists of two parts. In the fi rst one the author presents the idea of the competition for the title European Capital of Culture, and also selected cities which had changed their image thanks to that title. The second part is concerned on changes which take place or which are planned in the Wroclaw city space in connection with organization of the ECC in 2016.
