Summary/Abstract: In the spring of 2005 the research team of INFONIA Foundation conducted research on the ongoing transition of the civil sector, with the comprehensive title „Civil Organizations in the Information Society for the Information Society”. A four-phase series of empirical investigations within the frames of the research project has resulted in outlining a general picture of the readiness of the Hungarian civil sector (interpreted in the broader sense) to utilize information and communication technologies, while fully documenting the genesis and the present-day activities of a „cutting edge” group of organizations, which plays a leading role in various projects aiming at the development of the information society. This paper gives an account of the most important results and „lessons” gained during the inquiries.
