Summary/Abstract: The paper strives to establish analogies in the motif complexes of the European Enlightenmentand Serbian classicism through a comparative analysis of the two most significant Voltaire novels(Candide and Zadig) and two novels by Atanasije Stojković (Kandor and Aristide and Natalija). In order to illustrate the content similarities as much as possible, an individual interpretation ofeach work was carried out, in which the presence of common motifs was noted. At the sametime, with reference to the historical context and the one-century delay of Enlightenment ideasin our area, the differences in their narratological transformations are followed.
