Summary/Abstract: One could paraphrase the old saying: Do not approach a revered monument even with a snowball, let alone a hammer, when reading about the misadventures of some children who accidentally clashed with the Directorate for the Memory of Soldiers Fallen for the Defense of the Fatherland in the Russian Federation. A group of boys from a school near Saint Petersburg—formerly Leningrad, a city that endured immense hardship during World War II (or the Great Patriotic War, as the Soviets named it)—accidentally extinguished the eternal flame at a monument dedicated to the heroes of the Red Army. According to the law, this act is punishable by up to five years in prison.
