Summary/Abstract: This article addresses the question of Transylvania's geopolitical role from the perspective of its three main neighbours – the Ottoman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy and Russia. The focus is on the period between the second siege of Vienna by the Turks and the annexation of Bessarabia by the Tsarist Empire. The meaning of this focus is that the geopolitical situation arose in that period that continues to the present: Russia as a power close to the Carpathian region, which directly or indirectly has a say in the political situation. This process has also had an impact on the internal situation in Transylvania.
