Summary/Abstract: Songs from Prizren (first and second cycle), composed by music pedagogue and composer Petar Đorđević, represent a kind of reminiscence of the Mokranjac’s garlands tradition, with admixtures of the specific Metohija (Prizren) idiom. Composed in the 1970s and 1980s, they contrast with the then-popular musical trends and prevailing stylistic orientations, both through the applied compositional techniques and through the composer’s distinctive approach to folklore traditions with marked autochthonous (local) characteristics. This paper will examine and present the processes of artistic adaptation of folklore through analytical and comparative research methods, correlating these techniques with related examples from Mokranjac’s Garlands. This study aims to highlight the specific and indisputable influence of Stevan Mokranjac’s garland model on the structuring of Songs from Prizren across all relevant segments of the musical flow.
