Catacuzino Chronicle. Contextual considerations

Summary/Abstract: The Cantacuzino s Chronicle appeared for serving the political needs of the boyards of the house, being written by a member of the smaller educated boyards serving that family. For understanding better how and why the text was conceived the reader has to take into account the ambitions of some of the members of the Cantacuzino fammily to become hospodar of Wallachia, the social movements of those years – related to the Frencg civil war from the middle of the XVIIth century and to the English Revolution and civil war – and the new way of thinking that made the smaller aristocracy of the country (state earli modern-type burocracy and mercenary soldiers).
