Summary/Abstract: Studying the perception of war in the case of a national minority depends on identity overlaps, past traumas and current political expectations, which can be analyzed with the help of the concept of ‟ethnic glasses”. After the launch of Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine, the Romanian national minority was caught between several identity dilemmas. On the one hand, there was real, sociologically ascertained dissatisfaction with Ukraine's policies in the field of national minorities (education, press). On the other hand, another important factor is represented by the crimes of the Soviet regime committed against the Romanian national minority, the blame for which is partially transferred to the image of Russia today. The data collected as a result of field research are proof of the support of the Romanian national minority for Ukraine and the condemnation of Russia’s military actions. In the midst of the Russian￾Ukrainian war, the studied minority group demonstrates political loyalty to Kyiv due to its civic identity (as a citizen of Ukraine) without abandoning its ethnic identity. At the same time, supporting Ukraine in the context of the war is seen as a future obligation of the authorities to change the legislation on national minorities.
