Summary/Abstract: The aim of this paper was to present the reading of the novel Jan Nepomucki through the erotology aspects, while interpreting the relationship between the protagonist and female characters: the (absent) wife Larisa and the (present) brotherʼs widow Ženja. While discussing the theories of Mikhail Epstein, Georges Bataille, Roland Barthes and Nikolai Berdyaev, the hypothesis of this research was formed – is love inherent to the artist hero? Through the analysis of the erothemes, places where sensory experiences and boundaries are crossed, the opposition between female characters and the emotional and tactile epithets of hot and cold were also in focus. A significant place in this research was dedicated to the motifs of water and fire as well – because fires constantly accompany Jan Nepomucki – and their destructive, revolutionary, compositional, but fruitful and erotological meanings. The concluding parts of this research were devoted to Eros as an artistic, creative force and the only way in which the hero artist can acknowledge love – through art, music and everlasting creation.
