Summary/Abstract: Dogma and Poetry (Ša‘r wa še‘r) is the title of a book by the Dutch Iranist J. T. P. (Hans) de Bruijn published in 1983. This work is a study of the poet’s life, the multiple periods of his work, the praised types of poetry, the characteristics of the content and form of the work, and an analysis of the most prominent poems of this poet. The author introduces the book with the additional title The Interaction of Religion and Literature in the Life and Works of Hakim Sana’i Ghaznavi, and in the introduction he writes: “The noteworthy point in Sana’i’s works is that they represent the full breadth of religious Persian poetry in the sense that they encompass all the elements that made their original form accessible in the following centuries.” We will read a translation of a section from the fifteenth chapter entitled Sana’i’s Didactic Masnavis.
