Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to present the image of the Swedish monarch Charles XII Wittelsbach (1697–1718) as contained in Catholic narrative sources of ecclesiastical provenance. The analysis is based on eighteen monastic chronicles from the Crown territories, belonging to Catholic male and female orders. Most of these chronicles appeared in print over the last two centuries, while some remain in manuscript form. The analysis of the chronicles takes into account the adjectival terms for the person of the Swedish monarch and nicknames given to him, such as Lion of the North. The considerations contained in the text provide a starting point for the perception of the person of Charles XII by the Polish clergy in the early 18th century.
