Summary/Abstract: With the outbreak of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine in 2022, the importance of the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits, as well as the Montreux Convention that regulates access to the Black Sea, have become important topics of discussion for both regional political actors and the international community. However, the way these issues have been presented to the public, without comprehensive context, has led to a partial and biased understanding. The main objective of this article is to examine and explain the legal regime of international straits, particularly those that provide access to the Black Sea, with a focus on their importance for security. The historical analysis of relevant treaties and conventions, as well as the case study related to the Bosporus and Dardanelles Straits, it provides sufficient clarifications for this topic to be easily understood by the general public.
