Summary/Abstract: In the paper considered were the results of archaeological research of a late antiquity site Grad-Lopaš near Požega. For three years long research campaign, from 1987 until 1989, the southern rampart with four towers and an inner part of the fortress had been extensively researched. Evidence that the fortification was abandoned or was never fully built include scarce finds of artefacts, absence of cultural stratigraphy with a destruction layer, non-existence of ramparts that would encircle the place, relatively low altitude and easy approach to the location. The scarce finds from the site which are noted in the archives of the National Museum in Užice include three objects made of chert, described as being of Mousterian complex and dated in the Middle Paleolithic. The artefacts are the first Paleolithic objects found in the territory of the Požega municipality. A legend that relates the site to an epic character of „dijete Lauš“ hasn’t been conformed with the archaeological evidence. On the basis of Serbian letopisetses (chronicles) „dijete Lauš“ has been identified with Louis II of Hungary (1506–1526), King of Hungary, Croatia and Bohemia.
