Summary/Abstract: In this paper, the author, using the comparative method, chronologically presents a historiographical overview of prostitution in the Ottoman state through the most important lines. The focus is particularly on several documented cases of prostitution from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries in the Bosnian Sandžak. In addition, the existence of prostitution in the Smederevo Sandžak, or the Principality of Serbia in the 19th century as a neighboring administrative-administrative unit of the Bosnian Eyalet, is particularly emphasized. In the introductory part, the author points out the aggravating circumstances when researching this complex topic during the period of Ottoman rule (until the 19th century), which largely depends on the territory, century and a number of other factors, as well as its lack of research in the Bosnian Eyalet. Since this topic remained on the margins in Bosnian and Herzegovina's historiography during the Ottoman period, the author intends to open certain questions and encourage new research with this paper.
