Summary/Abstract: Christmas is one of the most important holidays during the year. There are many Christmas customs and some of them have in the foreground the Christmas tree. The Christmas tree as a Christmas custom exists both in the German-speaking area and in today’s Romania. The article aims to use existing information to illustrate how this German custom was adopted by Romanians. To present and analyze the proposed topic, German and Romanian literature was utilized. First, a review of the appearance and evolution of the Christmas tree in the German-speaking space is made. Then the attention is focused on the German communities in Banat, Ardeal, Maramureş, Bucovina and Dobrogea. Last but not least, the custom is portrayed in the Romanian collectives, where the emphasis is not only on the custom, but also on its appearance and on how it was received at that time by Romanians. The Christmas tree is constantly subjected to a comparative analysis.
