Summary/Abstract: In the present study, we propose a synthetic characterization of the Romanian noun, by presenting the main subcategories in which the members of this lexical and grammatical class are distributed, according to the oppositions categorematic/ syncategorematic, individualizing/ globalizing, proper/ common, individual/ collective, abstract/ concrete, followed by the presentation of the inflectional features specific to the noun paradigm (gender, number, case, determination).
