Summary/Abstract: The conference "Bohumil Hrabal neidylický. Přehlížené a ukryté aspekty jeho díla," held from April 25-27, 2024, in Nymburk, commemorated the 110th anniversary of Hrabal's birth. Organized by the Charles University Institute of History and Archives, the event focused on the non-idyllic aspects of Hrabal's work, often overshadowed by popular film adaptations. The conference featured interdisciplinary discussions on Hrabal's multifaceted authorship, integrating idyllic and non-idyllic themes. Highlights included analyses of Hrabal's spirituality, metaphors in his early works, and the reception of his texts in different cultural contexts. The event also explored Hrabal's influence on historiography, his reflections on historical ruptures of the 20th century, and his connections to places like Kladno, Libeň, and Nymburk. The conference concluded with a social evening, including a reading of Hrabal's works and a documentary screening, followed by a guided tour of Nymburk and Kersko, attracting over 200 participants.
