Summary/Abstract: Contemporary research on multilingualism confirms that speech development in multilingual children follows a similar pattern to that in monolingual children. Milestones of linguistic development are reached at approximately the same time. The difference relates to the occurrence of certain specific linguistic phenomena resulting from contact of languages in the child’s mind. Peculiar linguistic phenomena in the speech of multilingual children can sometimes mask difficulties in speech development or become the cause of false positive speech therapy diagnoses. The study presents a proposal for a diagnostic procedure towards the assessment of speech in terms of linguistic fluency and fluency. For this purpose, linguistic and paralinguistic indicators of speech were analysed.
