Summary/Abstract: When writing the history of towns and villages in Slovakia, Slovak historians have focused on researching the history of settlement. The results of their work provide the foundations on which the history within regions or individual localities can be extended. One such locality is the village of Zbudské Dlhé, whose history dates back to the reign of the Hungarian King Andrew II. At that time, it was a village associated with a large estate, from which villages gradually emerged both in the valley of the Laborec River and in the adjacent Laborec Highlands. One of the important aspects of examining the origins and development of this area is to follow its economic development. This development was based on everyday needs and was governed by its own laws. Hungarian customary law offers an interpretative key to medieval documents. It also allows for the observation of the economic condition of the locality or a defined territory.
