Summary/Abstract: The word reimand ‘the broadening frame of a wagon’ is, according to the card catalogue of the vocabulary of Estonian dialects, held at the Institute of Estonian Language, Tallinn, recorded only in the Käina parish on the island of Hiiumaa. The word seems to be of Swedish origin, as possible source for borrowing has taken into consideration eastern Swedish dialects spoken in Estonia and Finland as well as the Swedish dialect on the island of Gotland. The word has probably been borrowed from Finland-Swedish dialects in which the possible source whith a suitable phonetical and morphological form and similar meaning, räima ‘lath in sledge’, räim ‘lath in sledge, parallel to runners’, is present, cf. Swedish remme, rimme.
