Summary/Abstract: The foundation of a place of worship and its support was generally done for the purpose of eternal remembrance, as mentioned in the pisani or other inscriptions accompanying the gifts or foundations. The ancestral lineage was not forgotten either, as the remembrance of ancestors was a permanent requirement for demonstrating the faith and piety of the founder. The landowners did not forget that the churches they had built would also house the family tombs. The founder enjoyed advantages, but also had obligations concerning the material support of the place of worship and its servants, the observance of canonical rules and the remembrance of the authorities, on the fulfilment of these requirements depended the normal running of religious activity. The founding act was influenced by the introduction of the Organic Regulation in Moldova, the economic, social and administrative reforms and the political changes that followed, the Union of the Romanian Principalities, the War of Independence and other crucial events of the 19th century. The financial, social and political power of the aristocratic class was affected by the new administrative-territorial designs that split or extended estates, reorganized them and redistributed their resources.
