Summary/Abstract: Contemporary Arabic studies rarely include corpus-based works discussing – at various levels of sentence description – the mechanisms of thematization: i.e. the moving of constituents to initial position from their unmarked post-verbal and post-subject positions. This paper examines topicalization: a specific thematization strategy, described as the simple movement of sentence constituents to the initial position without a trace of that process. The analysis focuses on object and adverbial topicalization, as well as on inversion as a specific type of topicalization of the nominal predicate within equative sentences. A fundamental conclusion of this paper is the exclusion of the possibility of OSV sentence model realization. Adverbial prepositions in topic-comment structure are also discussed. Additionally, this paper provides an insight to the communicative roles of the object, and nominal predicate topicalization and its stylistic potential.
