Summary/Abstract: Political cleavages have shaped the development of the political parties in Romania since 1989. Due to the speed of transition, several types of political cleavages occurred, affecting to a large extent the dynamics of the political parties. The article aims to analyse all these political cleavages, as well as their influence on parties and on the party system.
