Summary/Abstract: In recent decades, the structure and dynamics of family life in Europe have undergone major changes, influenced by social, economic and cultural factors. These changes reflect the trends of an evolving modern society and have a significant impact on the way families function and interact. One of the most notable changes is the diversification of family types. In the present study we aim to review the legislative changes at European level concerning unmarried couples, with references to the case law of the European Court of Human Rights and the European Court of Justice, and finally to try to sketch some possible directions for regulation in our law.
