Summary/Abstract: Spatial order is one of the elements of sustainable urban development. It consists of various aspects, for example: environmental planning and protection against floods, which should be connected with themselves. Spatial planning should take into account environmental constraints, in particular restrictions on an intense development of the floodplains. It is important to reconcile with each other these often conflicting interests, like pressure on land-use areas where risk of flooding occurs with the introduction of restrictions on such areas. In article were described the idea of sustainable development, the risk of flooding and ways of preventing flood damage. Analysis of local planning documents has been carried out in Strumień for the delimitation and management of zones threatened with flooding. The assessment of the spatial policy in the Strumień town was made.
