Summary/Abstract: The food crisis was a matter of great importance in the USSR. Short periods of apparent prosperity and abundance in store goods were followed by phases of scarcity for most food and consumer goods. This article presents several key moments of the confrontation between the political leadership of Soviet Russia and the working people, who were often deceived by their expectations. As expected, in addition to the officially expressed protests and open letters sent to newspaper editors, people also attempted to address the issue with humor.
