Topicality and Attractiveness of Tadeusz Peiper’s Thought: References and (Co)Inspirations

Summary/Abstract: The article outlines the current reception of cultural and aesthetic writings of TadeuszPeiper. Peiper’s theories of art and culture offer pioneering interpretations, which predatelater readings and diagnoses of social and artistic phenomena. Moreover, they are widelyapplied outside of the literature studies, providing theoretical frameworks for research incommunication studies, media studies, cultural studies, urban studies, film theory, andarchitecture theory. Although Peiper was not a visual artist, his influence also surfacesin modern exhibition practices in museums and art galleries. Widely recognized as theauthor of famous statements on art – for example from his manifesto Miasto. Masa.Maszyna (Metropolis. Mass. Machine) – which remain in popular circulation withoutmost users knowing anything about their author. The article argues that in his artisticviews Peiper successfully predicted many paths of development for artistic and socialevolutions of the twentieth and twenty-first century.
