Summary/Abstract: Citizenship is defined as full and equal membership in a political community. In the modern world, states provide a collective political identity to their members, as well as certain rights. Citizens expect specific rights from their state, as well as assistance and protection wherever they travel. The importance of full membership in a state can be understood when considering the plight of thousands of people around the world who are unfortunate enough to be forced to live as refugees or illegal migrants because no state is willing to grant them membership. Such people are not guaranteed rights by any state and generally live in precarious conditions. Citizenship is one of the fundamental human rights and many benefits come from it. So if we do not have citizenship in any of the western countries, we cannot work in those countries. Procedures are very complex for obtaining citizenship in the most developed countries for simple reasons because many people simply want to leave or live and work in some of the western countries, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the like.
