ANALYSIS OF THE ARTISTIC CHARACTERISTICS OF PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT OF SHANG DEYI'S ART SONGS

Summary/Abstract: As one of the important musical genres in the European Romantic period, art songs were introduced to China in the early 20th century and were spread and developed by older musicians such as Qing Zhu, Zhao Yuanren, and Huang Zi. Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, a large number of new Chinese musicians represented by Shang Deyi have continuously explored and excavated the development direction of art songs in China based on the foundation of their predecessors. Among them, nationalized artistic language has become an important medium, and many excellent art song works have been created. As the most famous art song composer since the 1970s, Shang Deyi has a very personal style in the application and treatment of art songs, as well as his thinking and explanation of the times. Combining traditional Chinese folk music with Western composition techniques, he is undoubtedly a model of contemporary art song creation in terms of creative techniques and skills. The introduction, absorption and re-creation make his works both contemporary and national, while retaining the basic characteristics of art songs. The piano accompaniment of most of Shang Deyi's art songs has beautiful polyphonic melody lines. The writing of piano accompaniment is concrete and realistic, with strong modeling. In addition, piano accompaniment pays great attention to the unity of rhythm, the layout is very interesting, the texture is smooth, and the image is vivid. Shang Deyi's works emphasize national style and secondly embody the “combination of Chinese and Western” in his creations. Shang Deyi's art songs and piano accompaniments not only have a strong national style, but also reflect his reference to and application of Western music elements. This is the greatest manifestation of Shang Deyi's creation of a combination of Chinese and Western styles. He used the genre of Western German and Austrian art songs as the basis for his creation, and integrated traditional Chinese composition techniques, folk music materials and national tuning systems with Western harmonic functions, form structure, musical language and other aspects. The music works he created are neither the traditional style of Chinese folk songs, nor the traditional writing types of German and Austrian art songs. This innovation in composition techniques is a major feature of Shang Deyi's art song creation. This paper will take the piano accompaniment of Shang Deyi's art songs as the main research object, and try to analyze the artistic characteristics of the piano accompaniment of Shang Deyi's art songs by analyzing its polyphonic melody line, Melodic texture characteristics, image-shaping creation, and the fusion of Chinese and Western piano accompaniment in Shang Deyi's art songs. It will also provide some feasible references for better interpretation of his art songs, and add reference and practical significance to the development of piano accompaniment of Chinese art songs.
